“The Other Side.” is all about a school trip that goes terribly wrong for a group of normal 12-year-olds, and the author, Inaya Gala, convincingly weaves together the themes of murder, Doppelgangers, spirits, humour and horror.
When I met this unassuming, shy, young writer at a book event, I had no idea that she would have it in her to write such a detailed and interesting horror book. This is a genre that i rarely pick (most likely never) but just to understand what and how these youngsters are poised in the arena, I did grab a Kindle version of this one.
As I read through the pages of “The Other Side,” I was captivated by the thrilling storyline and the vivid descriptions of the other realm, a place that humans know nothing about. The three children at the centre of the story are fighting tooth and nail to bring back their friend, and Inaya’s writing makes you feel like you’re right there with them, experiencing every twist and turn of their journey.
What I loved most about “The Other Side” is how Inaya seamlessly blends different themes and elements to create a truly unique and engaging story. From the chilling horror to the heartwarming loyalty between the characters, every aspect of the book comes together to make it a must-read for fans of the genre. It is quite exciting to see youngsters coming up with a blended work which reflects their inspiration from varied International middle grade publications.
Inaya’s ability to create such complex and multi-dimensional characters, as well as a rich and immersive world, is truly remarkable for someone as young as a thirteen year old. She has done a fantastic job of capturing the essence of a great story while infusing it with her unique voice and perspective. It only helps that her father, who himself is an author, is your mentor and guide. I am confident that this young writer has a bright future ahead of her and can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next. Kudos, Inaya!
