A Game of Power Play

A Game of Power Play

Silence
broke through the night.
An anxious wait followed
and in the wee hours of morning,
war cry.

“Fire fire!”
At the command,
the reverberations
reached a deafening crescendo,
gun shots.

Volley
ensued both sides;
Those muffled whines and groans
faded into oblivion.
Hopes quelled.

Naive
petty victims;
Slaughtered mercilessly,
They know not the reason nor the
outcome.

A game
of power play,
mercilessly devours
the contrived yet innocent pawns.
Alas!
