A Stormy Night

The hustling and whistling of the wind made Ananya snug deeper into her blankets. The rustling of leaves, the purring of her dear kittens, everything was adding up to her already anxious chain of thoughts. It was a wrong idea to agree to this but was there any other option for her!

Ananya had to stay alone for the night against her wish but nevertheless she agreed. Rahul could not avoid the very important meeting he had to attend at the outstation venue. That’s understandable but did her daughter, Roohi, have to have her 3-day school camp right at the same time!!

Amidst this unavoidable scenario, Ananya wondered why did she have to deal with the fury of nature as well. As it is she had a fear of sleeping alone even if there were other members in the house and now the situation is of being totally home alone. Yes, the kittens were there for company but the rough weather was making them go crazy as well!!!

The fearsome winds started blowing with even more velocity and it almost felt as if the entire top section of her house would be blown apart and flung over like a piece of cardboard. Struggling to keep up with the thumping heartbeat which was now almost deafening her ears, Ananya switched on the bedside lamp for some comfort. The fact that the ocean was just close-by amalgamated her fears with the thoughts of a possible tsunami or a cyclone!!!!

As if the wind was not enough, a gushing rain started to pour heavily making the already tense atmosphere even more fearful. The vengeful rain added to Ananya’s panic and she just didn’t know how to cope with her own inner turmoil. Just when she thought of calling Rahul to seek some assurance, the bed-side lights went off and she realized that the bad stormy weather had disrupted the electricity supply as well. All hell broke loose upon this unexpected realization. Now all she wished for was to talk to Rahul, to be able to hear a human voice until dawn sets in and to this effect, she immediately searched for her cell phone and groped it impatiently while simultaneously being relieved to have found it.

What was to unfold next was not something she could have imagined in her wildest dream! There was not a single percent charge in her phone and it was now just a piece of useless metal. That’s when she suddenly recalled her practice in Rajyoga meditation which always emphasized on keeping our soul battery fully charged at all times with the power of the Supreme. This sudden remembrance of her years of spiritual practice helped her to calm down immediately and all the cacophony of the extreme rough weather subsided into a complete null and Ananya fell asleep peacefully in the lap of her eternal protector.
