Acceptance

Acceptance

We are made of colours different
so we can rise and shine like
a rainbow in the sky, up so high.
But do we treat everyone alike.

Living like someone else was a choice
made for a child to hold her
up so high, a rainbow in the sky.
But her own existence was a blur.

Losing her man and bearing a child,
life she dreamt will never be
a rainbow in the sky, up so high.
For her child’s sake, turned into a HE.

Gave up her existence for a cause,
and lifted her daughter’s life
up so high, a rainbow in the sky.
But shame, acceptance is still not rife.

Author’s Note

This poem is inspired by Muthu Master aka Petchiammal a woman who lived like a man 37 years to protect herself and her daughter.
