Arrival of an Autumn

Arrival of an Autumn

I look around me. I feel it! I wait
with breath bated. Ominous thoughts loom large,
as people deal with a dreadful monster.
If I dare to spot a silver lining,
am I foolish? But then, I see the sky,
resplendent in its blueness. Yellow leaves
whisper to me tales of hope eternal.

Miles apart, I dream of those kash flowers.
The nip in the air soothes those yearning hearts.
The Mother will arrive with Her children,
Elsewhere dolls will adorn odd-numbered steps.
That brings a cheer to my uncertain life,
as nature provides us reasons galore
to celebrate life on this mortal earth.

  1. A beautiful poem combining the present pandemic situation with hope that festivals bring in. Only one line was confusing to me ‘ the mother will arrive with her children’.

    1. Hi Bindu
Mother with Her children refers to Goddess Durga with Her children – Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh. This arrival signifies Durga Puja in Kolkata.
