Boxing Day

Boxing Day

Crammed is my home, boxes galore,
a slice of yesterday in each,
life-lessons plenty, did each teach.
Hits, misses, memories, and more.

It’s time to shift again, and start afresh,
A part of me struggles to bid adieu.
That corner? There the child took her first steps.
That chipped off paint? A banner tugged out hard.
Every nook and cranny, a story to tell,
A fresh chapter will get written today.

Before it gets dark, we must reach,
Is there time for one last encore?
I push boxes out of the door,
and fondly quote my farewell speech.

We shut the door, bidding a silent goodbye,
Will the next person love it as much as we did?
My watch solemnly beeps the time; it is six,
Six? Also, the number of years we spent.
Now, it’s just us, and our plenitude of boxes,
As we put our best foot ahead to explore.

Crammed is this new place with our boxes,
Now, let’s make this house, our joyful home!
