By the Sea

I lay down by the sea
Beneath the sunless sky
And the waves set me free.

Beside me rose the scree
On cliffs towering high
I lay down by the sea.

Wild was the wind stormy
With lone wings did I fly
And the waves set me free.

I stood tall like a tree
With no friend nor ally
I lay down by the sea.

The abyss yawned for me
But I sailed and passed by
And the waves set me free.

Far yonder I could see
Dark clouds rising, but I,
I lay down by the sea
And the waves set me free.

An occasional writer but a regular thinker, Beryl sometimes fiddles in speculative fiction. He sees both humour and tragedy in everyday events and is extremely concerned with the fate of other creatures trapped in the monstrous march of 21st-century human civilization.
