Snám Suad
A Snám Suad (pronounced sNaao Sooud) is an ancient Irish, eight-line syllabic poetic form whose name translates to "swimming of the sages" or "poetic floating".
Here are the basic guidelines for this poetic form:
- An eight-line stanzaic poem.
- All lines have 3 syllables
- Follows the rhyme pattern: aabcdddc
- Lines 4 and 8 are 3-syllable words; all other lines end in monosyllabic words
- Lines 2 and 3 share consonance (be and box consonate)
