Lament

Lament

How  sweet you must look in your youthful grace;
Little girl today you will be sixteen.
I breathe so I may one day see your face;
May providence ally  and intervene.
Here in this prison your vision does seem
To beckon me to take you in my arm.
I erred years ago to save you from harm-
The world said, ‘Heads I win and tails you lose’;
And snatched me from you; no qualms or alarm.
-Leaving Justice bemused at man’s sad ruse.
