The Herb of the Sun

In a garden grows a beautiful flower
Growing in bunches on an earthly bower
Its yellow orange petals look like gold
It has a musky scent with soothing power

Carrying the Blessed Virgin’s name in its fold
Add the richest metal, it becomes Marigold
Like pinches of turmeric in a green bucket
Medicinal properties it does hold

Garlanding the fields in a dense thicket
For pests and weeds it acts like a picket
Strong and healthy grow plants all and one
It adorns its space like an ember carpet

Its hues vary, seems like a roasted bun
Also known as herb of the sun
To the Gods it is offered for worship
An important staple of rituals Indian
