The Lament Of The Empty School

The Lament Of The Empty School

Children in uniform are my heartbeat,
What bids them to stay away for so long?
My classrooms used to be their safe retreat.
My bustling halls, they would eagerly throng.

Perhaps they left to pursue adventure?
Children in uniform are my heartbeat.
Each one I love, both front and backbencher!
Without them, I’m completely incomplete.

I yearn to hear again, their voices sweet,
Never will I whine about the chaos.
Children in uniform are my heartbeat,
My empty halls tell tales of my pathos.

Perhaps they are returning tomorrow,
That thought makes me elated and upbeat.
Their entrance shall wipe away my sorrow,
Children in uniform are my heartbeat.

  1. It is a beautiful and heart-touching poem. Every emotion has been well expressed. I liked the repeated lines.
