Prisons are of various types
But not all are of bricks and stone
Most prisons are to keep criminals behind the wall
For the crimes they have committed
Sadly, at other times, we sentence ourselves
Become prisoners of our thoughts and emotions
We imprison our minds in superstitions and beliefs
Fear is the offender, to push our minds behind the wall
Sometimes, we lock in guilt, failures, and despair
We convict ourselves thus to depression and frustration
Behind the wall of loneliness is a deafening silence
Despondent and lonely, some set themselves free from their lives forever
Alas! Our elders sometimes have to live behind the walls of homes for the aged
Imprisonment meted out by their kith and kin
I wish instead of walls, we build bridges
That touches the shores of humanity from one end to the other
Release yourself from the prison of greed, anger, and hatred
Your life will amend when the mind and spirit are free and unbound.
