Illumination
I first gazed at the sun
Many eons ago. The light
Has blinded my eyes
And all I have seen afterwards
Is love pouring from the sky.
You ask me from whence
Does this rain fall
In yellow radiance
Of dandelion dawns
Dancing in distant meadows
Full of tropical splendor?
I cannot answer you
Though I know the truth-
For my eyes have lost
Their sight of the things
That don’t matter, of the whys
And the wheres, and the whatnots
And all that is left in me
Is sunshine, warm and bright,
Spilling from the heavens
Into the brown terrestrial
Mass of the wandering earth
You cradle in your restless heart.
