My Life Plan

Hi! I am Jay, and today was supposed to be the best day of my life. Today was the only opportunity to showcase my hard work in the college interview, for which I had prepared since I was in elementary school. Even before I learned to tie shoelaces, my career path was clear to me, but today, after my miserable performance, everything seems blurry. What am I supposed to do now? I opened my diary, and the bold letters reading 'MY LIFE PLAN' started to bounce in front of me. I threw the diary away, and all my notes got scattered around. Jumping to the bed, I was pulling the blanket when I heard a strange voice. " Why're you sleeping, Mr. Jay. Are you sick on this beautiful day?” "Leave me alone," I replied reluctantly, refusing to come out of my cocoon.  "Alone? How can I leave you just like that? I'm your friend, the Cat in the Hat." "The Cat in the Hat??????"  I turned to the voice, and there he was, sitting in my rocking chair.  "Oh, dear! Look at this face, come, let me take you to some exciting place. You feel blue because you may fail an interview, but what you need is to expand your view."  He said, pulling me out of bed. And the next moment, I was in a strange place with lots of people sitting idly and lazing everywhere. The sky was cloudy and dark with not even a hint of excitement, and it only made me more depressed. I looked around, and the Cat in the Hat was nowhere.  I asked the people about the place, and a boy replied with a yawn, "It seems you are new in this space. We only wait here in this waiting place." My soul was scared. If I don't get out of here, I won't be able to survive, I told myself and looked around nervously. The place had a network of roads leading in different directions. Instead of waiting, I decided to take one and started walking. Everything was so quiet, with not even an insect creeping around, but I continued to walk. After walking for hours, I noticed something on the horizon, and then I heard his voice again. "Failures and crashes are certainly no fun, but there'll be other chances, other races to run. You may win some, some you may lose, and only you can pull yourself on the path you choose." He said while patting my back. Feeling determined, I started to run as I wanted to get out of this waiting place as soon as possible. The bright light on the horizon blurred my vision, and when I opened my eyes, I was in my bed with the Cat in the Hat bookmark in my hands. I feel at peace in my mind as now I know, whatever path life takes, I will reach my destination with my hard work and patience. Note:  I read The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss around six years back when my daughter was two years old. We loved the book, and we have read many books by Dr. Seuss since then. My kids love all the characters and the rhymes in his books, and I love the life lessons explained with such simplicity and ease in his picture books. The submitted story is a bedtime story I tell my kids often and inspired by all my favorite books written by Dr. Seuss.   Penmancy gets a small share of every purchase you make through these links, and every little helps us continue bringing you the reads you love!
