Ode to Night
When the sun sets in the sky And stars appear in the heavens When the birds homeward fly And darkness covers the glens
When the south wind blows And the trees sway and sing When the river peacefully flows And the evening bells ring
When the flowers close their eyes And the bees rest in their hives When old friends renew their ties And new bonds change our lives
Then does the sedulous Night come Like the traveler on the road Who the wide world did roam But like home, found no other abode. __
