Son of the Nation

He’s back draped in saffron, green, and white, Lay limply under a sombre wreath One who till yesterday, was in limelight. He, who held on to his last breath in fight, Placed the nation above and his own kin beneath He’s back draped in saffron, green, and white. The shrunken shoulders present an abject sight, So do words unsaid behind clenched teeth One who till yesterday, was in limelight. A son of the nation in his own right To none did this place he bequeath He’s back draped in saffron, green and white. He never sought another future bright Was laid to rest on August fifteenth One who till yesterday, was in limelight. Oh! His mother let him out of sight Though within herself, she felt him breathe He’s back draped in saffron, green and white, One who till yesterday, was in limelight.      Penmancy gets a small share of every purchase you make through these links, and every little helps us continue bringing you the reads you love!
