The Being, Next Door

The Being, Next Door

Did I tell you about my neighbour, Mr. Sharma?
If you ask him about India, he will talk about Burma.
He was proud of himself and all that he owned,
Including his sons and even the clothes they donned.

He blatantly displayed his sons performance,
That too in our royal courts, in my father’s presence.
Well, that was enough for my parents to admonish
Me, for all my efforts and proclaiming me clownish.

Today his sons are high performers and well placed in faraway land.
Enjoying the quality of life there, but leaving the father alone in motherland.
Now whenever Mr. Sharma visits my royal courts, however he tries
Seeing me with my parents, tears doesn’t stop flowing from his eyes.

  1. Relevant lead character of Sharmaji. I think we all have one in our lives. It might need some more humor based on the format of Clerihew but putting that aside it’s an excellent take and the ending lines steal the show.
